| Aldridge Christmas Tree |

Community Funded Christmas Tree
For many years Aldridge like many parts of Walsall Borough, did not have a Christmas Tree. In 2006 a number of people suggested that Aldridge website might like to look into how we could obatain a tree. After making enquiries with Walsall borough Council it was clear that no funds were available, but local residents and Business owners were keen to offer support to raise funds which were then placed in a new " Aldridge Christmas Tree fund" bank account with the help of local Councillor John Rochelle.
In 2007 we decided that having learned a great deal from the challenges of organising a tree and meeting the requirements of insurance, safety, electical supply and logistics of delivery and erecting the tree, we could improve and save costs on our tree.
The 2007 Christmas tree located on the Elms traffic island in Aldridge was festooned with 1200 LED lights with low power consumption and looks great.
We are considering the option to have a live tree planted for future years which will take time to mature. A live tree may be approx 8 to 10 feet tall when planted, so it may need a 24 foot cut tree for a number of years ?
We have also considered adding further multi coloured lights to the existing trees on the traffic island and perhaps ways to add some festive decorations to the High street in Aldridge which at present has none. Anchor road does have some decoration on the street lighting.
Any thoughts or suggestion would be welcome for future plans and the 2008 decorations in particular !
Thank you
Alan
